International Lightship and Lighthouse Weekend August 17/18 2024

 August 17/18  2024

Is the International Lightship and Lighthouse Weekend.

REMEMBER There is NO monthly meeting this month, however, there will be a Fox Hunt on 24 August, details to follow.

Once again, we have arranged to man the Green Point lighthouse from the Saturday morning of 17 August until mid-day Sunday of 18 August. We have repeated this so often now that our Lighthouse team manages to do the set-up and take-down with military precision but we still need manpower from our members, especially around 10:00 on Saturday morning in order to get our beam antenna raised.

Even if you are not taking part in the Lighthouse weekend, it would be appreciated if club members could come and assist with the set up at Green Point on Saturday morning 17 August 10h00 and for take down on Sunday, 18th  at 11h00. (Committee members will meet at the clubhouse at 08h30 on Saturday morning to load antennas and equipment).

We will be having our very popular and always well attended Sunset Bring ‘n Braai on the Saturday evening (weather permitting) so even if you are not planning to operate, please join us and bring the XYL along for this social event. Fires will be lit at 5pm. Please bring your meat, rolls and salads, refreshments etc; and your chairs to the braai.

images (7).jpg

We need operators for the event so please pop in and grab a mike or key and make a few contacts with us, it’s always great fun. This should be especially interesting for some of our new hams to make some international SSB contacts.

If you are planning on staying over (the more the merrier,) then please do let me know soonest and John can arrange enough room for us all. We already have some members staying over this year, which is great news.

See you there.

John, ZS1EQ

CTARC: It's Time!!!! Subs Renewal

 Hi to all CTARC Members:

There will be NO increase in subs for 2024 / 2025:

Subs remain at R195 per Member (under 65), and R150 for pensioners (over 65).

Morningstar subs remain at R395pa.

(Remember your spouse may join the Club for 50% of your fee).

Morningstar remote station rental at the Morningstar Flying Club has increased very slightly but we have absorbed this small amount this time to keep our cost to you the same as last year.

Please do consider continuing and renewing your membership for Morningstar to help keep this wonderful facility in operation.

Please read this next paragraph, it may concern you!

***All Life Members,  please ignore this email. Those who have joined the club in the past 6 months, also those few members who have paid 5 years subs upfront, you too please ignore this email and we thank you.

***If you are not sure if you are paid up or not, just check the last membership certificate you received from me, and see if the date at the bottom is valid past 2024.

The Renewal form is available ( click here ) to be updated only IF your details have changed please. The Club’s banking details are on the form, and this is your reminder to pay your 2024/2025 subs as soon as possible.

(EFT is preferred if possible please, as it costs the club at least R50 each time to bank R195 cash and we try to avoid it).

***Please use bank reference: ‘Subs and your call sign and or name’.

Last year I had a total of 7 payments that I still have no idea who sent them. 2 of these were for Morningstar? So not small amounts which can’t be allocated corrected.

I look forward to receiving your p.o.p shortly. Remember, subs are due by 30 June please. Reply per email to: ctarccapetownarc@gmail.com

Thank you,

Anne

SARL 2024 AGM: Come on Team CTARC, Let's do this!!!

The SARL 2024 AGM and Awards Dinner is to be held in Cape Town this year, and the CTARC has agreed to be the host for this event.

The event will take place at the Garden Court Hotel, Nelson Mandela Boulevard, with easy access from the N2 and free off road parking.

Friday evening there will be a welcome Cheese and Wine in the hotel pub area from 17:00 to 19:00, which the CTARC will be sponsoring for SARL members and partners attending the AGM. (free) to CTARC members, and SARL members and partners.

Saturday Morning 9am to 1pm in the conference room at the hotel will be the AGM. Tea and coffee will be served. (There is no charge for attending the AGM).

Registration details are on the SARL website (http://www.sarl.org.za/). PLEASE go onto the site and register TODAY!  The SARL AGM needs a quorum to go ahead, and you need to book your seat for this and /or the other events.  So far, we are extremely disappointed at the low registration from our CTARC members.  We need you to come out and represent your club.

Also, by attending the AGM you could be in line to win a REDELL UV97 New Generation Dual Band Radio with the programming cable included.  This radio was kindly donated by Bombastik Radio Accessories.

The afternoon on Saturday will be at leisure and a shuttle bus has been arranged to take delegates and their guests to the Waterfront.  There will be a small charge for this.

The CTARC Clubhouse will be open that afternoon from 14:00 until 16:00 for any delegates who wish to visit the CTARC's clubhouse in Rondebosch.  ZS1TK's 'RF Cafe' will be open for refreshments.  Transport to the clubhouse I’m sure can be arranged if necessary.

Saturday evening is the Gala Awards Dinner, 18:30 arrival for 19:00.  This year it will be a 3 course buffet dinner with tea and coffee included.

The cost of the dinner has been set at a very reasonable R300.00 per head.

Sunday Morning the out-of-town delegates will prepare to head home after breakfast.

This is the first 'live event' since Covid and we really want to make the CTARC 'shine' with as many of our members attending all or at least part of the events on this auspicious 99th SARL AGM/Dinner weekend.

Please diarise the date 19 to 21 April.

PLEASE REGISTER TODAY!
